Altınkaya Dam and HEPP

Located 35 km southwest of Bafra in Samsun on the Kızılırmak River, this project is a clay-core rock-fill dam and one of the largest dams & HEPPs in Turkey. The Altınkaya Dam and HEPP has a beneficial reservoir of 5.763 hm3 and generates 1.632 GWh of electrical energy annually. It also provides constant and regular water supply to the Derbent Dam for energy production. The height and length of the dam crest are 195 m and 634 m respectively. The 9,8 m diameter diversion tunnel, on the other hand, is 1.700 m long. The Altınkaya Dam and HEPP, constructed through a partnership established with Güriş, Inc., has the installed capacity of 700 MW and includes a spillway capable of handling 11.800 m3/s in its scope.
