One of the first Multi-Purpose Facilities in Turkey, the Akmerkez Complex was chosen as the best shopping centre of the year in Europe and World in 1995 and 1996 respectively by International Council of Shopping Centres (ICSC).
The complex is located at the center of Istanbul and has a total construction area of 165,000 m2. It consists of a four-storey shopping center; a business center having two circular towers each based on 1,020 m2 foot print area, one 14 floor and one 17 floor; and a 24-storey 5-star apartment hotel having 22,000 m2 construction andn 1,050 m2 foot print area. Two of the underground levels are allocated for parking and one is reserved for mechanical systems. With more than 250 stores designed with “shop-mix” approach, the center has maintained its appeal even after all these years and the construction of numerous similar complexes. In fact, it continues to be visited by approximately 3 million people per month, making a unique contribution to urban Istanbul as an enjoyable establishment that meets the various social and cultural needs of residents.
