In 1997, Yüksel, along with a joint venture formed between Nurol and Tekfen, was awarded a contract by the General Directorate of Highways to construct a highway in one of the most difficult sections of the Black Sea coastline. The project scope of work consists of 2 x 2 lane – 27.5 kilometres highway, five tunnels having a total length of 2 x 4,587 metres and 34 bridges having a total length of 7,600 metres. The longest highway tunnel in Turkey, Nefise Akçelik Tüneli, forms part of this project with a length of 2 x 3,777 metres. The project was financed by a foreign credit.
